Proctor & Hester

Just a reminder to all AP Lang students, that we have been completing quizzes each day in class and that these do go into the gradebook. Tuesday, May 23, is our last class day, and all quizzes will need to be made up by the end of the school day tomorrow. This may be completed before or after school, or you will receive a zero for these assignments. Let's end on a high note and finish up all AP Lang responsibilities.

1& 3: You completed the quiz of the day regarding Friday's class content, and you performed The Crucible. If absent, you should take a look at a summary of the play so you know the basic characters and plot points.

7: You completed the quiz of the day regarding our play on Friday, and you witnessed The Scarlet Letter in action.

Tomorrow is our last class day, and we will finish with a little active participation :)

Witch!

All classes completed the first quiz covering American Literature today. Absentees will need to schedule a time to make up this quiz.

First and third hour, you found out about the Salem Witch Trials, the HUAC, and Arthur Miller in preparation for our Crucible acting experience on Monday. If absent, e-mail for the power point to learn more about these events and prep for the opening quiz on Monday.

Seventh hour, we acted out The Crucible today! I'm writing this prior to class, but I'm assuming it will be a fun and crazy experience! If absent, I would recommend you read a synopsis of the play and learn more about the main characters for the quiz on Monday.

Native Americans, Puritans, and Witches, Oh My!

Each AP class is in a different spot of our American Lit immersion:

First hour has worked with Native American myth, heard the powerful sermons of Jonathan Edwards, and read of Anne Bradstreet's observations upon  the burning of her house.

Third hour has done the above with the addition of Anne Bradstreet's devotion to her husband.

Seventh hour has completed the above and found out more about the Salem Witch Trials, Communism, and Arthur Miller, our author of The Crucible.

If you were absent for any of the hours, you will need to read up on Grandmother Spider: http://www.ilhawaii.net/~stony/lore120.html; Jonathan Edwards: http://www.classzone.com/books/am_05_shared/pdf/psource/TAS03_3_83_PS.pdf; and Anne Bradstreet: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/43707 and https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/my-dear-and-loving-husband.

There will be a brief quiz over these texts tomorrow, and all will be expected to recollect the main themes, plots, and ideas in these texts. We have 3 days left, which means 3 days of participation that may benefit or negate your overall grade.

If you were absent seventh hour, the above holds true. There is also a power point on background of the Crucible, which is needed information. E-mail prior to class, and I will send it to you for study.

AP Lang Endings

Before we jump into the fast-forward version of American literature, which will start our next class session and will allow all of our acting skills to be on full display, today was the alternative assessment for those not taking the actual AP exam or those wishing to improve their quarter and semester grades.

After Monday's class, you have either completed the final class prompt or will be turning in the work today due to absence or being part of seventh hour -- yes, we were a tad behind the other classes on this assignment.

Mr. & Mrs. Bennet

From seventh hour on Wednesday and from first and third today, we read the opening chapters of two texts featuring the world of Mr. & Mrs. Bennet and their societal conflicts. Any absentees will need to make this up on Monday.

The alternative assessment, required for those not taking the AP Lang test and optional for any other students, will be Tuesday.

The Shoe Winner

After our test has been completed, we might as well have a blog regarding the less serious side of AP Lang.

As third hour found out yesterday, the top shoe selections are not available in my size, so the "winning" shoes still had the most votes but, alas, will not find their way onto my feet.

Here are the Top 5 for those of you interested...

5 Tie. Gucci Lip Pumps (I did try these on at Bal Harbour in Miami last summer, and they are absolutely darling in person.) https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/85/0d/46/850d46d8557f494d4580e47cf5d6778b.jpg

Time for the 5

After three review sessions during school and one lengthy one after school, I know I am ready to take the AP Lang exam. Oh, wait. I can't! However, that should not stop you from doing your best tomorrow and utilizing all those writing techniques and multiple choice strategies to improve your overall score. After all the card play today, look what you have learned over the course of these 8 months!

Breakfast is at 6:50 tomorrow -- review your portfolios tonight, sleep well, eat heartily, and be ready for our walk across the way to the exam!

The Third

For first and third hour today, you completed the last prompt for our practice exam. During next week's two days, we will analyze the test scores, do my favorite analysis all year, and review for the exam.

Seventh hour, you have the joy of that prompt on Friday.

Don't forget after school review sessions to prep for the exam. Yes, you are all prepared from a year's worth of multiple choicing and prompting, but it does not hurt to have a refresher prior to the big day.

P.S. Shoe voting for your class ends Wednesday morning!

Two Prompts for the Price of One

If you missed today's class, you will need to make a lengthy appointment to take the 2 prompts from today. These prompts are a package deal and must be taken together.

For our next class session, you will have the final prompt of this practice exam.

Monday and Tuesday will be the analysis of the exam and a few final practices for the AP Lang test next Wednesday.

Don't forget after school sessions to review close reading, multiple choice, rhetorical analysis, argument, synthesis, and rhetorical strategies. I brought my green box of prompts today, so we are covered for the next week!

MC

We began our last full practice test today with the MC portion of the exam. Any absentees will need to schedule a time this week to complete the test. It runs one hour and would best be completed during a study hall.

Tomorrow is the combo of 2 prompts in which you choose the order of completion.

For those of you absent last week, all the 6a-6e passage components need to be completed by the end of the week. You have study halls, after school, and other options.
